A Brief History My first attempts at art began as a young lad growing up in the town of Camden, Maine. Although I thoroughly enjoyed drawing, painting, and creating it often resulted in getting in trouble with the teacher or the principal at school! Thankfully, I was smart enough and determined enough to continue to create while excelling at my studies. As a young man I began studying at The Boston Museum School of Fine Art. It was a challenge and a thrill to be instructed by world class artists and be surrounded by others with incredible talent and passion. After recovering from a near-deadly motorcycle accident, my life took a more serious, yet rewarding path. I began studying law at Boston University where I truly excelled beyond all expectation. Major law firms came calling and I signed on at the firm of Isham, Lincoln and Beal in Chicago, where I eventually became a partner. I also had the privilege of teaching Law at Duke University for a short while. Then life threw me another BIG curve. It was Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It didn't have a name back then, but it basically stopped me in my tracks and left me with unexplainable pain on a daily basis, unable to sustain any physical exertion or stand for more than a few minutes at a time. My law career came to a screeching halt, but I was able to maintain a family jewelry business until 1997. |
In 1998 I met my wife, Teresa, a native West Virginian. I moved to the area to "pursue her properly" and in September 1999 we were married. We maintain a family business and reside in Scott Depot, WV with our beautiful daughter, Zoe, who was born in 2003. After many years of "city life", I consider this area of the country "home" and where I would like Zoe to establish roots. The beauty of the land and the people have been an inspiration as I create in my studio on a daily basis.
About My Work
Although I have studied and created art for decades, the process of cataloging my works, framing, and entering shows has only begun over the last few years. My online portfolio as well as the hard copy are available for review and are updated on a regular basis. Currently, I have over 100 pieces of varying sizes (4'x 6' to 15"x 20") framed, wired and ready for display at any time. Most of the paintings are acrylic on canvas and of the abstract genre.
A great deal of my work, and thus the titles, are Biblically inspired. Other pieces are reflective of important events in my life. Regardless of the inspiration, I feel that they stand alone as fine art and it is my hope that they evoke powerful individual responses in each onlooker. My feeling of greatest accomplishment as an artist does not come when it is finished and I sign the piece, but when it is viewed by someone other than myself and their thoughts, feelings and interpretations "breathe life" into the work.
